Patricia Jones is a painter who draws inspiration from the Russian impressionists of the late 19th Century. Focusing on landscape and still life, she uses thick paint and active brush strokes to communicate rhythm, mood, passion, and mystery.
Patricia is especially drawn to the familiar objects and sights that we take for granted every day. In her paintings, she strives to translate anew the essence of the ordinary, the everyday and the overlooked into works of art. This approach has allowed her to reach out to a wide audience, and today her paintings can be found in private collections in the U.S. and Europe.
It was on a trip to St. Petersburg and Moscow in January 2001 that Patricia fell in love with the Russian impressionists. With a small group of painters, she braved the weather to tour museums, visit art academies and seek out protégés of these artists in their studios.
She returned two more times, spending three weeks painting 'en plein air' in the historic village of Staraya Ladoga, two hours north
of St. Petersburg, under the tutelage of a graduate of the prestigious St. Petersburg Academy of Art.
Filtering these influences into her work, Patricia says, “I find that seeing, contemplating and working on art consumes all my waking hours. It’s a passion that has completely taken over my life.”
