I select simple subjects and use them as an excuse to play with paint. My goal is to express emotion, rhythm and feeling, rather than straight depiction.
On the canvas, my subjects do not always behave. They slip and slide out of representation, sometimes veering into abstraction, and it is all I can do to wrestle them back into some some semblance of reality.
